In ActionSuccessful Strategies to Improve Health Care
Disseminating and Institutionalizing Best Practice Approaches
Using regional consultative processes, AWARE’s international and local partners have identified and adapted best practices for the region and are disseminating and leveraging successful approaches. Bundled into best practice ‘packages’ that draw from complementary technical areas such as health sector reform, quality improvement in service delivery, and commodity security, AWARE is supporting their replication to achieve large-scale improvements in the quality and reach of family planning, maternal and neonatal care, and malaria in the region.
Increased Advocacy for Policy Change
The AWARE-RH model has the regional weight backed by international donors and institutions needed to effect national level policy change. By training institutions in advocacy skills, and bringing stakeholders such as policy makers, religious leaders, and journalists to the table and promoting dialogue, AWARE-RH and its national counterparts are achieving positive policy reform in their countries. Examples include improved funding and delivery of maternal and neonatal care, more progressive family planning/reproductive health policies and services and their integration with HIV/AIDS services.
Increased Capacity of Regional Institutions
AWARE-RH’s regional scope enables the project to build capacity on a large scale. The project provides technical assistance both directly, and through regional training centers and technical leadership institutions (TLIs) whose capacity AWARE-RH is working to establish and strengthen. Newly created capacity among regional health institutions is resulting in better-managed programs that are continually improving their quality and reach, and institutions able to independently solicit donor funding.
